Impact close to points record on the road in MLS

With a depleted line-up, the Impact succeeded in doing something it’s never done in MLS at Red Bull Arena: get a result. And what a result it was! The 2-1 win allows Montreal to join the leaders in the East, D.C. United and Philadelphia Union, but to also regain confidence after a performance below expectations against NYCFC. Maxi Urruti opened his Impact scoring account, just like Zakaria Diallo, and all of a sudden, the Impact has more points on the road than it did last year.

This victory stems from a strong show of character from those on the pitch, who managed to come back from behind in the second half through sheer effort and creativity, but also from the audacity demonstrated by head coach Rémi Garde, who started three centre-backs, allowing the full-backs to make themselves available when New York’s pressing got too dangerous. That being said, Montreal didn’t suffer offensively, quite the opposite, having shot 10 times in the direction of Luis Robles’ net. It’s all quite auspicious with another road game on the horizon, this time in Ohio to take on FC Cincinnati for the first time in MLS, this Saturday at 1pm (TVA Sports, TSN, 98,5, TSN 690). While we wait, here are the advanced stats from a memorable night in New Jersey.
