Videotron Player of the Month: a big month for Samuel Piette

PIETTE_JDM_VIDEOTRON

Quebec midfielder named Videotron Man of the Match twice in April

It was midfielder Saphir Taïder who stole the show in March, scoring three goals over the course of the first few games. But as the team continued its work defensively, recording five clean sheets out of six games this month, defensive midfielder Samuel Piette has climbed up the Videotron Player of the Month table, earning two Man of the Match nominations this month.

It isn’t just a few players putting in the work for the Impact. As we’ve seen since the beginning of the season, offensive and defensive contributions are coming from everyone, something that’s clearly reflected on this table. If there were only six players included in the standings after the first month of play, that number has increased by 10 in April, with 16 players now being featured.

That’s where the Impact’s success has come from thus far this season: from its collective effort over 90 minutes of play. The inductions of Shamit Shome, Mathieu Choinière, Zachary Brault-Guillard, and Clément Bayiha in the table show how vital the team’s young players have been in dealing with this busy schedule.

A special mention goes out to Evan Bush as well, who cements himself in second place after recording five clean sheets in April. His play also prompted the league to name him the Player of the Week in MLS after Week 9.

For those who need reminding, every game (almost), the Montreal Impact asks you, the supporters, to pick your Videotron Man of the Match through our mobile app. It’s always a choice between three Impact players who are having a good game, and the winner is announced once the game is over.

For our standings, the winner of the Videotron Man of the Match earns five points, whoever finishes second gets two points, and the player who finishes third gets one point.
