MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Tuesday the acquisition of Panama international midfielder Omar Browne, following a loan agreement for the remainder of the season, with an option to buy, with Panamanian club C.A. Independiente de La Chorrera. His acquisition will be confirmed after receiving his international transfer certificate, his visa, and his medical.

“Omar is a young attacking player who adds depth to our group,” said Impact head coach Rémi Garde. “He’s technically gifted, quick, and powerful. It’s interesting to have a left-footed player who can play both on the left and on the right. I wish him the warmest of welcomes.”

Browne, 24, previously spent his entire career in Panama’s first division, playing successively with Plaza Amador, Sporting San Miguelito, Chorrillo, and Independiente. He scored 15 goals over the past two seasons with Independiente, taking part in 49 games, including 39 starts and 3,808 minutes of play.

He recently took part in the 2019 edition of the Concacaf Champions League, helping C.A.I. reach the quarterfinals after scoring twice in two games against Toronto FC in the round of 16. He added an assist in the following round against Sporting Kansas City.

On the international scene, Browne has played four games with the Panama national team, including two starts, making his debut on April 18, 2018, against Trinidad and Tobago. He’s also faced Ecuador, the United States, and Brazil in friendlies.
