34th pick overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Tuesday that it signed midfielder Amar Sejdic (say-ditch) to a one-year contract, with three option years. The former University of Maryland player was selected 34th overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft on January 11.

“His overall potential and the state of mind he demonstrated during camp convinced me that he could help the group reach its objectives,” said Impact head coach Rémi Garde. “Our challenge now is to help him progress from a university level to the growing demands of MLS. I would like to welcome him to the Impact.”

In 82 games with the University of Maryland Terrapins, Sejdic scored 22 goals and added 16 assists. The young 22-year old was named to the First Team All-Big 10 Conference twice, in 2016 and 2018, and once on the Second Team All-North Region by United Soccer Coaches in 2018.

He won the NCAA title last December 9 with the University of Maryland, scoring the game’s lone goal from the penalty spot in the 57th minute, in a 1-0 win against Akron. He was then named the College Cup Most Valuable Player.
