The group places itself among top 8 MLS academies

HOUSTON, Texas – The Impact U17 qualified for the Champions Division of the 2019 Generation adidas Cup, after beating the Houston Dynamo 2-0 in the last game of the qualifying process, thanks to goals from Matthew Catavolo and Jérémie Omeonga.

The 2019 Generation adidas Cup will take place at Toyota Stadium, in Frisco, Texas, from April 12 to 20.

“The fact that we managed to qualify for the Champions Division, placing us among the top 8 MLS academies, represents a lot for us,” said Impact U17 head coach Nicolas Gagnon. “It’s an opportunity for us to face some of the best academies in the world, like AC Milan, Real Madrid and Olympique Lyonnais, among others. But even more important is that after spending almost 30 hours in airports this week due to the weather, the guys have been incredible and have really demonstrated their character.”

After two losses in its first two qualifying games, the Impact bounced back with three wins in its next four games, scoring five goals while conceding just one, to secure its place in the Champions Division.

Last year, the Impact U17 played in the Premier Division. The team finished third after finishing first in its group, before losing 2-1 to the Seattle Sounders FC in the semi-final. The group won the third place final 3-2 against Mexican club CF Monterrey.
