Impact’ Canadian players well represented in 2018

Canada Soccer announced is list of nominees for the Player of the Year Awards on Wednesday, with voting open for the media and coaches from November 27 to December 6.


In the Player of the Year award on the men’s side, the Bleu-blanc-noir’s midfielder Samuel Piette was nominated alongside 11 other players. The 24-year-old Canadian international was an essential part of the Men’s National team throughout the year, featuring in two of three Nations League qualifiers, both wins, and playing all 90 minutes in a friendly against New Zealand that the Reds won 1-0.

Shamit Shome and Mathieu Choinière nominated

The Impact’s Shamit Shome and Mathieu Choinière were both nominated for the Canadian Youth International Players of the Year award. This category celebrates Canada’s top youth footballer in recognition of his achievements with Canada Soccer’s National Youth Teams, with an emphasis on his performance at age-category international competitions.


Shome and Choinière both took part in the Toulon Tournament in France, playing important minutes for the U21 team that managed an impressive sixth-placed finish. It was Canada’s first ever participation in the historic tournament.

Choinière also recently took part in the 2018 Concacaf U20 Championship, in which Canada’s U20 team won three games out of five, with Choinière scoring one goal and serving as captain for a few games.
Pantemis saves highlighted

Impact goalkeeper James Pantemis also has two saves nominated for the Allstate Canadian National Teams Good Hands Award, recognizing the top save by Canada’s National Team goalkeepers during international play. You can vote for Pantemis by clicking here.
