Bleu-blanc-noir in search of points
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota – The Montreal Impact will visit Minnesota United FC for the first time, this Saturday at 8pm EDT at TCF Bank Stadium (TVA Sports, 98,5fm, TSN Radio 690).
“It’s a team that is trying to develop its overall project in regard to last season,” said Impact head coach Rémi Garde. “They’re putting in place a style of play that is more structured and a little less direct. It’s a very generous team from what I’ve seen. They have players that never give up, so it will be a difficult game for us in that regard.”
Progress through adversity
The Bleu-blanc-noir will want to put an end to a frustrating situation. The team hasn’t scored in its last three games, although the players continue to put in the effort, and are looking to find the road to victory again.
“Everyone’s disappointed,” said defender Daniel Lovitz. “We haven’t scored a goal in three games, and all those games have been losses. Something needs to change. It’s up to us to figure out what that is and then move forward in a positive manner. That’s the most important part. We don’t want to use the word desperation, but we know that if we really want progress, we need to get moving fast and effectively. We’re going to Minnesota with the intention of winning.”
First trip to Minnesota since 2011
The Impact won’t be in unchartered territory in the North Star State. Montreal played its last game there in 2011, a 2-0 victory against the Minnesota Stars in the NASL, with Evan Bush earning the shutout. In its history, the Bleu-blanc-noir has a record of two wins, seven losses and two draws in Minnesota, against the Stars and the Thunder.
“We have an opportunity to have a good performance and change the course of things,” said midfielder Samuel Piette. “It’s important for us to go out there and get the result because we’re going through a difficult stretch. I think it’s a very winnable game.”
Upcoming games
The Impact will play two consecutive games against Texan clubs. Saturday, June 2, at 7:30pm, the Houston Dynamo will visit Stade Saputo (TICKETS – TVA Sports 2, 98,5fm, TSN Radio 690) and a week later, on Saturday, June 2 at 8pm EDT, the Bleu-blanc-noir will face FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium (TVA Sports, 98,5fm, TSN Radio 690).
