LyesMTL qualifies for the Ultimate Club Global Series Playoffs
BOSTON, Massachusetts – The Montreal Impact and its eSports player, LyesMTL, went the distance at the first edition of the eMLS Cup, from Thursday to Sunday at a video game convention in Boston. Lyes Ould-Ramoul made it to the MLS final, but lost 6-4 over two games against the Houston Dynamo’s Kid M3mito.
“It’s always hard to lose a final, but I’ll learn from this experience,” said LyesMTL. “I’m preparing myself now for the eWorld Cup, and finishing as a finalist at the eMLS Cup allows me to reach the last step of qualifying. I’d like to thank the fans for their messages of support throughout this tournament.”
A tournament high in emotion
LyesMTL had Montreal’s supporters hooked from a distance, scoring a number of goals in the late stages of his games, most notably against TKO1707 from New England during qualifying and against didychrislito from New York City FC, in the Eastern Conference final. He also levelled the score against PhilB94 from Toronto FC with the last touch of the ball in the Eastern Conference semifinal.
On his way to the final, LyesMTL maintained the best defensive record, allowing just 22 goals in 16 qualifying games. He then won against the Chicago Fire’s HekTic_JukeZ, Toronto FC’s player and New York City FC’s player in the knockout stage, on Saturday and Sunday. Then, in the first game of a two-leg final, LyesMTL took a 2-1 lead before Kid M3mito tied it up in the 90th minute. The second game went the Texan’s way, finishing 4-2.
Over 30,000 people tuned in to the live broadcast of the first ever eMLS Cup, which was a success at the PAX East video game convention. The tournament’s final phase was presented to the public in the PAX Arena, attracting numerous visitors from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
World Cup objective
LyesMTL is still on track for his goal of qualifying for a second time to the eWorld Cup, the international tournament which for the first time will be organized jointly by EA Sports, the producers of the FIFA 18 video game, and FIFA. The next step of Lyes’ qualifying will be at a tournament in June, the Ultimate Club Global Series Playoffs, where 16 of the 64 players that qualified will earn their ticket for the eWorld Cup.
