Because the Development Academy season is on hold until March, the Impact U19 will take advantage of this break to participate in the RSEQ winter season, where it will play seven games against other Quebec university teams.
Although the Bleu-blanc-noir’s results won’t count in the standings, the Impact U19 will use these games to stay in shape and play against strong university teams whose players are slightly older than the ones it faced in the Development Academy. It will also be a good opportunity to include some U17 players on the team.
“When we play against universities, we play against players that are older, faster and stronger than us,” said Impact U19 midfielder Tristano Fasulo. “It will help us prepare for the Development Academy teams that are taller and more athletic. It will also help us technically and tactically.”
In 2017, the team had a 3-2-1 record, losing only one game, against UQAM, by a score of 2-1.
This year, Philippe Eullaffroy’s team will play seven games, starting with a game against UQTR, this Sunday, at 2:30pm, at Complexe sportif Alphonse-Desjardins, in Trois-Rivières.
The Impact U19 will then face Concordia University, Université Sherbrooke, McGill University, UQAM, Université de Montréal and Université Laval.
After the first half of the Development Academy season, the U19 team is first of its group and third in the general standings, with a 11-1-2 record. The group is also first in North America with 56 goals scored and will start the second half of the season on March 11, against FC Westchester Armour, in Purchase, New York.
