Nacho stays

Nacho article OM 11 oct

The Bleu-blanc-noir family has learned great news yesterday: the magnificent Nacho Piatti will continue his adventure in Montreal through 2019, and possibly 2020 – the option year in the contract. The goal-scoring leader since the club entered MLS belongs in the league’s elite, at least at the qualitative level.

With 47 goals since he arrived in Montreal in 2014, Piatti is the MLS best scorer from midfield, notably ahead of fellow Argentine midfielder Diego Valeri of the Portland Timbers. He completed 224 dribbles, which puts him second league-wide since August 2014, only behind Darlington Nagbe, also a member of the Timbers. His 123 shots on target rank him first among all midfielders during this period, along with his 210 shots in total.

When Nacho scores, the Impact wins more often than not; the Bleu-blanc-noir holds a record of 20 wins, 10 draws and seven losses when he gets his name on the score sheet. And when he scores a brace, the Impact does not lose, raking in eight wins and three draws. The number 10 finds the back of the net every four shots, more or less, for a stunning conversion rate of 24.8%. He is also one of the best in the league at getting the ball to his teammates, completing 81.5% of his passes and creating 174 scoring chances through key passes, which comes to an average of just under two per game.

Montreal definitely found its favourite Nacho, and we all get to enjoy his presence for the next two seasons, if not more. And we will take ours with extra goals, please.
