Academy scouting in the Maritimes

Atlantique

At the beginning of July, Academy head scout Simon Gatti and scout Jean-Yves Grenouillat went to Newfoundland, where the Atlantic Championship was being held, to evaluate the best players born in 2003 and 2004.

The tournament comprised teams from the Maritimes - Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, the latter being an official partner of the Montreal Impact Academy.

Both scouts had two objectives for this trip: to look at the potential of the region’s best players and to promote the Montreal Impact in Eastern Canada, reminding both coaches and players that the Bleu-blanc-noir can be their path to the next level.

“It was a good tournament,” said Simon Gatti. “It’s important that the Impact is visible in Eastern Canada in order to recruit local talent. I made good contacts there and there were many quality players that we were able to see.”

A player from Codiac, New Brunswick, caught the attention of the scouts and will be invited to tryout with the Academy.

In the last few years, three players from Nova Scotia joined the ranks of the Academy. Oscar Marshall, Connor Manuel and Brandon Phelps will play with the Impact U17 this year in the Development Academy.
