This Saturday, April 1, at 3pm (TVA Sports, CTV, 985sports.ca, TSN Radio 690), Marco Donadel could play once again against an opponent he faced in a prestigious European competition. The former Fiorentina captain, if healthy – and everything points that way – and named in the starting line-up, would measure himself yet again to German Bastian Schweinsteiger, the prestigious Chicagoan signing, seven years after the clash between the Viola and Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at Allianz Arena.

“He was amazing,” stressed Donadel on Tuesday, after training. “He was the complete midfielder: strong physically, technically amazing, tactically perfect, playing in a very nice team. I played against them, feeling like they were perfect or very close to perfection. Every player was amazing. He was playing with [Mark] van Bommel in the middle, with [Arjen] Robben and [Franck] Ribéry on the wings. They were very difficult to play against. He’s also won everything, the Champions League, the World Cup… We are very happy to have a player like him in the league. We will see if he plays on Saturday.”

Before ending up in the Windy City, Schweinsteiger played 13 seasons with Bayern Munich, featuring 500 times in the Bavarian colours. In 2015, he joined Manchester United, where he stayed on the fringes of the team, playing only 35 games. He also won 121 caps with the Mannschaft.
