Development Academy Impact teams still unbeaten in 2017

Raphael Garcia

Both Impact teams playing in the Development Academy were in action last weekend in Brooklyn to face BW Gottschee’s teams. They both left the State of New York with points.

Three points for Impact U18

The Impact quickly took the lead when Raphaël Garcia got knocked over in the box. Gabriel Balbinotti scored on the penalty kick for the Academy. He followed with his second of the game at the start of the second half, on a pass from Vincent Lamy. In stoppage time, the opposing goalkeeper committed a foul on Don-Junior Bobe, who scored the last Impact goal to help his team to a 3-0 shutout win.

Impact U16 picks up point in Brooklyn

The Impact U16 had a tough first half, as head coach Nicolas Gagnon’s team conceded a goal on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute. Yannick Laurent got a red card early in the second half, but the team showed determination and came from behind to equalize on a goal from Tristan Resendes. Gottschee also picked up a red card in the last minutes of the game, but the game still ended 1-1.

“The fact that we came back and scored a goal with 10 players against the top team in the standings shows the potential of this team and its character,” said Nicolas Gagnon. “If we can have this character at 11-v-11 more often, the quality of our games will increase. Had we shown more aggressiveness in our runs and passes in the first half, we might have won the game.”

Next games

After three away games since the season resumed, the Impact teams are still undefeated with a record of one win and two draws each. The Bleu-blanc-noir returns to Centre Nutrilait for the first time in 2017 this weekend, as the Empire United teams are visiting Montreal.
