Impact U18 ends six-game series against Quebec universities

IMFC UQAM

The Impact U18 played its last game against Quebec universities last Saturday at Complexe sportif Marie-Victorin and lost 2-1 against the UQAM Citadins, ending its friendly series with three wins, one loss and two draws.

The first half was tough for the Bleu-blanc-noir who was facing a good opponent. The Citadins scored in the 28th minute with a header after a free kick was played at the far post.

The second half was more promising. In the 77th minute, Vincent Lamy received a deep pass. His shot hit the post, but Alexis Stevens took the rebound and scored with a precise finish.

UQAM took the lead back in the 80th minute, once again on a header, but this time, resulting from a corner kick.

“Against UQAM, we met an experienced team that has proved its value over the years,” said Impact U18 head coach Yoann Damet. “The opposition helped us reinforce the fact that everyone must be involved and concerned. We have to raise the technical level if we want to highlight our qualities. We saw a game of two different halves and we can’t start playing only in the second half. We have to be better on free kicks in these games if we want to have success in the big games to come.”

The Impact U16 draws 0-0 against Vanier College

Last Saturday, in its last friendly game before the start of the season, the Impact U16 drew 0-0 against Vanier College.

In the first 20 minutes of the game, the Impact controlled the ball without creating clear chances. The team created more opportunities later, but wasn’t able to find the back of the net.

“We had a good game in the first two thirds of the field,” said Impact U16 head coach Nicolas Gagnon. “We had most of the ball and we played in their half, but when came the time to unbalance the opponent, we had to play faster, offer more runs or be more precise. The group made efforts and was united.”

League season resumes

Both teams will be back in Development Academy action this Saturday, March 4, in Epping, New Hampshire, against Seacoast United’s teams. The U18s will play at 10am and the U16s at 1pm.
