Defender Daniel Lovitz joins the Impact

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Tuesday that the club has signed American defender Daniel Lovitz to a one-year contract, with a club option for two more years.

Lovitz, 25, played 41 games, including 13 starts, and 1,387 minutes in three seasons with Toronto FC, recording three assists. He appeared in six Amway Canadian Championship games, five as a starter, helping TFC win the 2016 tournament. He also took part in seven USL games with Toronto FC II and the Wilmington Hammerheads.

“We are happy to sign Daniel after watching him integrate well with our group during our training camp in St. Petersburg,” said Impact technical director Adam Braz. “He is a versatile player with MLS experience that will provide depth to our backline.”

Lovitz was drafted by Toronto FC in the second round, 24th overall, in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. He had previously played with Elon University from 2010 to 2013, recording nine goals and 16 assists in 80 games. He was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year in 2013.
