FC Montreal loses 2-0 against FC Cincinnati

MONTREAL – FC Montreal lost 2-0 against FC Cincinnati after a brace from Sean Okoli this Wednesday afternoon at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.

In the 33rd minute, FC Cincinnati took advantage of a counterattack to score the first goal. McLaughlin received the ball on the right flank before passing in the centre of the box for Okoli, who scored his first of the day.

Cincinnati’s forward scored his second in the 70th minute. On another counterattack, Omar Cummings fed Okoli who ran all alone into the box before beating goalkeeper David Paulmin with a low shot into the right corner.

A few minutes later, midfielder Heikel Jarras received a brilliant pass between the defenders from Philippe Lincourt-Joseph. He ran towards goal and shot, but the ball hit the woodwork and went out of play.

Shortly afterwards, defender Janouk Charbonneau saw his second yellow card of the game and was ejected.

Playing with 10 men, FC Montreal continued to attack to come back from behind, but lost at the final whistle.

“We played a good game in general against a team in good form,” said assistant coach Simon Gatti. “We have trouble scoring, and we faced an experienced team. We didn’t react well on the counterattacks and that’s when they scored their goals. But the attitude of the boys was good in the first half. The second half was more open. What’s good with playing already on Saturday is that we can quickly forget about the result.”

“The game plan was respected, but we allowed two goals,” said midfielder Mastanabal Kacher. “Our approach to the last games was way better, but the results are not there. We work really hard and play to please the people that come to see us. We know what position we are in, but we want to show that despite that, we will continue to express ourselves and play good football.”

FC Montreal will play its next game on Saturday, August 6, at 3pm against the Richmond Kickers at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.
