FC Montreal hosts Charlotte Independence this Saturday

MONTREAL – After benefiting from a weekend off, FC Montreal will be back on the field against the Charlotte Independence, this Saturday at 3pm at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.

It will be the first of a series of four home games in 12 days.

Montreal played its last game on July 16 against the Rhinos in Rochester. Aron Mkungilwa scored his first professional goal in a 3-1 loss.

“The break helped us to recharge the batteries, get more energy and be fresher mentally,” said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “We are starting a series of seven games in a month with games every three or four days. We feel better. When Charlotte plays full strength, it’s a really good team. We have to make them doubt and control the play.”

In the first meeting with Charlotte earlier this season, FC Montreal lost 1-0, but controlled the game after giving up a goal in the 10th minute.

The Independence lost its last two games at home by a 2-1 score against Wilmington Hammerheads FC and New York Red Bulls II. The team is now in seventh position in the Eastern Conference with an 8-6-4 record. Jorge Herrera and Caleb Calvert are the team’s top scorers with five goals each.

“It won’t be easy because Charlotte is a good team that plays well with the ball, but I think that we are ready for the game and that we will give everything to have a good performance and get the three points,” said forward Badreddine Boulajoul. “We play four straight games at home. We want to get as many points as possible.”

Fans can buy tickets and enter the stadium on the Southwest side of the field starting at 2pm. Tickets cost $5, with $1 going to the Montreal Impact Foundation. Admission is free for the season ticket holders on presentation of their membership card. Fans will be seated on the West side in general admission.

The game will also be available via streaming at www.montrealimpact.com.

FC Montreal’s next game will be on Wednesday, August 3, at 2pm against FC Cincinnati at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.
