Italian striker Matteo Mancosu joined the Montreal Impact on Thursday, on a one-year loan from Bologna F.C. 1909. Mancosu wasted no time, as he already is with the squad in Utah ahead of this Saturday’s game against Real Salt Lake (10pm EDT, pregame show at 9:30pm on TVA Sports & TSN Radio 690).

Impact Media caught up with Mancosu on Friday. Here is Matteo Mancosu, in his own words.

On his first trip with the team

“I’m extremely happy to be here. I’m having a good time. This is very different from what I’m used to. But as soon as my agent told me that Montreal was interested, I told him to get a deal done and make sure that I could be with this group.”

On his interest for the Impact and MLS

“I spoke to various players such as Marco Di Vaio or Daniele Paponi, who told me some great things about Montreal and MLS. I was told that this is a good league, very competitive, with good play. They both loved Montreal and told me that this is a well-run club that treats players well. This is what I’ve seen over the past two days.”

On his playing style

“As a forward, I like to run in behind and look for space. I enjoy long passes into space. I want to play with the team, but I also want to own the penalty area and finish. I like to score goals.”

On his objectives

“I want to help this team win and do my utmost to do well in the playoffs.”

A message for the supporters…

“The Montreal Impact has great supporters who are always there and sell out the stadium all the time. I hope that they will support us and help us win games. Our supporters are a huge plus for us.”
