MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday the acquisition of Italian striker Matteo Mancosu, on loan from Italian club Bologna F.C. for a full year, until June 2017. Mancosu will join the club upon receiving his international transfer certificate.

Mancosu, 31, played the 2015-16 season in Serie A, scoring two goals in 21 games and 899 minutes. He began the season with Bologna F.c. 1909 before playing the second part of the season on loan with Carpi F.C. 1909. He also appeared in two Coppa Italia games, scoring one goal for Carpi in a 2-1 loss in the quarterfinal round against A.C. Milan.

“We are happy to add another experienced striker to our roster,” said Impact technical director Adam Braz. “He is someone who will complement our other attacking players and provide another attacking option for the second half of the season and beyond.”
Mancosu finished as the top goal-scorer in Serie B in 2013-14, scoring 26 goals in his first season in the Italian second division with club Trapani Calcio, playing a total of 40 games and 3,407 minutes, including 35 starts. He recorded four multi-goal games and also scored twice in three Coppa Italia games. He had previously helped Trapani win promotion to Serie B following its 2012-13 season.
In the 2014-15 season with Trapani, Mancosu scored 10 goals in 19 games and 1,546 minutes in Serie B, including 17 starts, before being acquired by Bologna F.C. in January 2015. He helped the club from Emilia-Romagna win its Serie A promotion, appearing in 15 regular season games, including nine as a starter, and two playoff games.
Originally from Cagliari, he was part of the youth system of hometown club Scuola Calcio Johannes. He also played for Italian clubs Atletico Calcio, Nuorese, Villacidrese, Latina and Vigor Lamezia over his career.
