Although small in stature, Lucas Ontivero is not short on skill.

He’s quickly impressed in just his first training session in Florida, Wednesday morning, with his speed and first touch on the ball, but his smile also stood out as it was evident that he loves playing the game and is pleased to have joined with his new club.

“I’m really happy to be on the field with this team and my new teammates,” said the 21-year-old Argentine. “Today’s training was good and smooth. I do feel a little tired after all the travel, but I’m really happy to be here.”

Despite playing across the pond for clubs in Turkey and Slovenia, Ontivero has been following MLS and says he enjoys what he’s seen.

“I’ve watched a number of MLS games and I enjoy the way the game is played here,” he added. “I have been really impressed with the players and the quality on this team. Thanks to God, I got the opportunity to join the Impact and come play in this league.”

When Montreal became an option, the left-footed winger was even more intrigued about the opportunity to join MLS alongside some of his countrymen.

“I knew that Nacho (Piatti) was playing on the team and that there were a few Argentine’s on the roster, so that has helped me get acquainted quicker with the group. I can’t wait to get started and help the team.”
