MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Saturday that Argentine defender Victor Cabrera has signed a long-term contract with the club after completing his transfer from River Plate. As per MLS policy, details of the deal were not disclosed.

In the event of a future transfer for Cabrera, the Argentine club will receive a percentage of the transfer fee.

“We are really happy to bring Victor Cabrera back,” said Impact technical director Adam Braz. “He was able to integrate quickly with the team and played an important and consistent role in the team’s success in both Champions league and MLS.”

In his first season with the Impact, Cabrera, 22, played 21 regular season games in MLS, including 20 starts and 1,730 minutes. He was named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Week on two occasions, for weeks 28 and 33, and once as the Videotron Mobile Player of the Game. He also appeared in one Amway Canadian Championship game.

He also helped the team reach the CONCACAF Champions League Final against Mexican giants Club América, recording one goal and one assist in four starts in the knockout stage. He scored his first goal with the Impact in the first leg of the semifinals against L.D. Alajuelense at Olympic Stadium.

Developed by River Plate’s Academy, he was a member of the renowned Argentine first division club for his first two seasons as a professional (winter championship 2013/2014 and fall championship 2014/2015).
