The Canadian Olympic Committee and Canada Soccer announced that goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau (last amateur club- Haut-Richelieu) and midfielder Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé (last amateur club - Sherbrooke), from the Impact’s first team, as well as defender Jonathan Grant (last amateur club - Sigma FC) and midfielder Louis Béland-Goyette (last amateur club - Lakeshore), from FC Montreal (USL), are part of the 18-man roster named to represent Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games, to be held in Ontario from July 10 to 26, 2015.
Gagnon-Laparé has five caps with the Canadian National Team, while Crépeau and Grant have previously attended training camp with the senior team under Benito Floro. Béland-Goyette recently took part in the CONCACAF U20 Championships in January.
The Canadian selection will be making its first appearance at the Pan American Games since 1999, when it finished in fourth place at the tournament in Winnipeg. The team opens competition at the CIBC Hamilton Soccer Stadium on July 12 against world powerhouses Brazil, before wrapping up play in Group A with games against Panama on July 16 and Peru on July 20.
The Pan American competition is an Olympic Developmental U22 event and will be a valuable chance for the U23 team to prepare for qualifying for the 2016 Olympics, set for the fall.
The top two teams in both of the four-team groups will qualify for the medal rounds with the gold medal game taking place on July 26.
