Impact qualifies for CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals

LDC

MONTREAL – Following the 0-0 draw between C.D. FAS and the New York Red Bulls, Wednesday night in El Salvador, the Montreal Impact has officially qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals, guaranteed to finish as the top seed in Group 3.

The quarter-final round is a home and away aggregate goal series that is set for February 24 or 25 (first leg), with the return match on March 3 or 4. The eight clubs that qualified for the quarter-finals will be ordered according to the number of points collected in group stage. The top four teams will play the return leg at home.

The Impact still must play its fourth and final group stage game, taking on the Red Bulls on Wednesday, October 22 at 8pm (TVASports, Sportsnet), at Red Bull Arena.

This is a second qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals in club history, having faced off against Mexican club Santos Laguna in 2009. Playing in the North American second division at the time, Montreal won the first game 2-0, in front of 55,571 spectators at the Olympic Stadium, before losing 5-2 in Mexico.

The bleu-blanc-noir will play its next regular season game this Saturday, September 27, against the Crew in Columbus at 7:30pm (TVA Sports, TSN Radio 690).
