August was a busy month for players from the Montreal Impact Academy as 13 players were named to different youth levels of the Canadian national team to take part in camps and tournaments around the world.
U21
Late last week, Canada named its 20-man U-21 roster for the 2013 Francophone Games to take place in Nice, France from September 3 to 15. Defender Dominique Morin, captain of the Impact U21 team (photo), was selected. Goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau and midfielder Zakaria Messoudi, both with the pro team, were also named to the roster.
The Canadian U-21’s will take part in four group-stage matches. The Impact played against Cameroon yesterday, and will then face France (September 6), Rwanda (September 8) and Congo (September 10). Canada’s group will qualify for the tournament semi-finals.
U18
Canada's men's U-18 team finished fourth at the Torneo C.O.T.I.F. in Alcúdia, Spain earlier in August, with four members of the Impact Academy representing their country.
Midfielders Yacine Ait-Slimane, Louis Béland-Goyette and Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé, as well as defender Kevin Lafond, helped the Canadian team wrap up the tournament with a 1-1 draw with Mexico in the match for third place, but lost 4-5 on penalty kicks.
Canada's record in the 10-team tournament was three wins, two losses and one draw in six matches.
U17
Defender Aron Mkungilwa, with midfielders Marco-Leonel Dominguez and Nevello Yoseke, from the Montreal Impact U-18 team, were all invited by the U17 Canadian national team to take part in a training camp from August 2 to 12 in Sunrise, Florida.
Canada has been drawn alongside Argentina, Austria and Iran at the FIFA U-17 World Cup set to kick-off on October 17 in UAE.
U15
Defender William Archambault, midfielders Esleyder Luarca, Don Junior Bobe and Mouhamed Touré, as well as forward Gabriel Wiethaeuper-Balbinotti, from the Montreal Impact U16 team, were part of Canada's U-15 team that was eliminated from group play on August 12 at the Copa Mexico de Naciones.
