Change to technical staff

de santis

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Wednesday that the club has relieved Nick De Santis from his functions as sporting director.

“In business, the most difficult decisions to make are those made involving emotions,” explained Impact president Joey Saputo. “ This is why, today, I am forced to make this decision with a heavy heart. After twenty years of being part of the technical team as a player, successful coach and GM, it gives me great sadness to announce that Nick De Santis has been relieved from his functions.”

“I want to thank Nick for his dedication,” added Mr. Saputo. “He was a key element and architect of the organization, and one of the reasons we are in the MLS today. He’s acted as not only a great advisor, but was also a friend. However, we are in a results based business. Since July 2013, the results are not at the level of our expectations.”

Frank Klopas remains the head coach through the 2015 season and will fully assume his role of director of player personnel, with the responsibility of making the changes needed to be competitive for the rest of this season, the CONCACAF Champions League and the start of 2015.

De Santis will remain with the club in an administrative role, but will not be involved in the management of the technical team, as the club is presently working on reorganizing both its administrative and technical departments; within this structure.

No other changes will be made to the technical staff at this time.
