Impact striker Marco Di Vaio named MLS Player of the Week

MONTREAL – Montreal Impact striker Marco Di Vaio was named MLS Player of the Week for the 28th week of action in MLS on Monday. Di Vaio scored a brace for the Impact in his team’s 4-2 win over the New England Revolution on Sunday night, at Gillette Stadium. With the win, the Impact remained atop the Eastern Conference.


With his two goals Sunday night, Di Vaio now leads the standings with 17 goals in 25 games, in front of Mike Magee (Chicago Fire, 15 goals) and Camilo Sanvezzo (Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 14 goals) respectively.


Di Vaio also leads MLS with 45 shots on goal, tied for first with five game-winning goals and four multi-goal games. He is second with 86 total shots.


The Italian striker is receiving this honour for the second time this season. He was named MLS Player of the Week for week 13, following a hat trick against Philadelphia.


He has been named to the MLSSoccer.com’s Team of the Week on five occasions this season, was nominated five times for Goal of the Week in MLS and also selected five times as the Videotron Player of the Game.


Next game

The Impact returns to Stade Saputo to take on the Columbus Crew on Saturday, September 14, at 2pm ET, and will be looking to play in front of a fourth sellout crowd this season.
