Player to watch: Kofi Sarkodie

Kofi Sarkodie Houston Dynamo

Although the Impact will be forced to contend with striker Will Bruin in its matchup with the Houston Dynamo, who’s scored four goals and set up four others so far this season, there is a less familiar name the home side will have to keep an eye on as well: Kofi Sarkodie.

Sarkodie’s career has taken off in the past nine months as he went from languishing on the Dynamo bench behind a stacked lineup to squeezing long-time Canadian defender Andre Hainault out of the lineup and eventually out of the league.

Sarkodie, a top 10 SuperDraft pick in 2011, has had to improve on his defensive game, adjusting to the pro level from collegiate and as he progresses, his confidence has increased to the point where he’s beginning to feel more comfortable in making runs and supporting the attack from deep down the flanks.

His runs down the right flank will have to be countered by whoever plays the left side of midfield for the Impact. Whoever it is, he will have to be conscious of Sarkodie’s progress offensively in order to ensure that the Dynamo right back doesn’t add to his four assists on the season.
