MONTREAL, Quebec – Montreal Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier and defender Shavar Thomas have been called for national team duty by their respective countries to play a pair of World Cup qualifying matches.

Bernier and Canada will host Cuba in Group C action in Toronto at BMO Field, on Friday, October 12, at 7:30pm (ET). The match will be broadcast live on Sportsnet One. The group finale will then be played on Tuesday, October 16, at Estadio Olímpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

“We have to win the first game against Cuba and hope that Panama gives us a hand and beats Honduras in their match,” said Patrice Bernier. “Then, we travel down to Honduras with a little bit of an advantage, but with the goal of still winning the game.”

Shavar Thomas and the Jamaican National Team will play their final two games of the group stage as well, traveling to Guatemala for the first match on October 12 and then hosting Antigua and Barbuda on October 16.

Canada is currently tied for second in the group with Honduras at seven points, but sits in third based on goal differential, while Jamaica is currently in a three-way tie for first in the group with seven points, but is holding down the third spot based on goal differential.

From the three groups of four teams in the 2012 CONCACAF 3rd Round of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Qualifiers, the top-two teams from each group will advance to the 2013 CONCACAF Final Round.
