Opponent watch: New England Revolution

New England Revolution Lineup vs Toronto FC

The Montreal Impact hosts the New England Revolution for the very first time on Wednesday night at 8pm, at Stade Saputo. The home side is looking to rebound after a difficult 2-1 loss to another Eastern Conference rival last Saturday, the Philadelphia Union. The visitors are also coming off a 1-0 loss to Toronto FC on the weekend.

Battle of first year coaches

Impact head coach Jesse Marsch and Revolution bench boss Jay Heaps are both in their first seasons as the main man along the sidelines. They both have had long and distinguished careers in Major League Soccer, and they both have accumulated six wins in 2012. Player selection and substitutions will be key in this matchup.

Oh, Canada!

The team representing one of Montreal’s biggest sports rival cities south of the border, Boston, has never won on Canadian soil. The Revolution has gone winless (0-2-5) in seven games versus Vancouver (0-0-1) and Toronto FC (0-2-6), including a 1-0 shutout loss to TFC last Saturday at home.

Expansion domination

Since 2005, the Revs are undefeated at 5-0-4 in their first ever meeting against expansion or relocated teams, which is an impressive statistic considering New England is 10-9-6 all-time against first year clubs in their first matchups.

The Impact will look to end that streak on Wednesday by keeping the Canadian stronghold established by its compatriot clubs versus the Revolution.
