Montreal Impact defender Matteo Ferrari was named to the MLS Team of the Week for the first times this season.
The Italian centre back’s class showed in week 8 against Portland, as he was nearly unbeatable on the back line and showed precision with his distribution as the Impact earned their first MLS clean sheet.
The former Italian international has played every minute for the Impact over its nine games this season, wearing the captain’s band once, and firing five shots on net while looking dangerous as a target on set pieces.
Ferrari’s partner in central defence, Shavar Thomas, was amongst the honourable mentions this week. The only other Impact player to be named to the MLS Team of the Week was Brazilian midfielder Felipe back in Week 2.
