Detection2010

MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced on Wednesday that six players will join the club’s Academy following the team’s latest U21 and U18 tryouts, held last November 5 and 6, at the Marie-Victorin Sports Complex, in Montreal.

Central defender Walid Abdelali (19, Louhans-Cuiseaux, France) will be joining the U21 team, while defenders Janouk Charbonneau (16, ASH-Hull) and James Geffrard (17, RDP), midfielders Emad Houache (17, ASH-Hull), Haris Radoncic (16, Lakeshore) and Yannick Toker (17, Lakeshore) will join the Impact U18 starting January 1, 2012.

The two-day tryout was open to players born between 1992 and 1995, playing at the AAA level, and had over 150 registered participants, from which 12 players were invited for a callback that was held on November 17.

“We were very pleased with the tryouts held in early November, as we were able to find six quality players with a lot of potential,” said the Impact director of player development Philippe Eullaffroy. “It’s important that the Academy always remains vigilant and keeps its doors open for new talent.”

The Impact U21 team will kick off its training camp on January 3. During its pre-season schedule the team will play seven games against Quebec University squads. The first match will take place on January 15 against Laval University, in Quebec City.
