Forward Mignane Diouf joins the Impact

“He is a young promising player who was well formed but we want now to put him in the best conditions possible to see his progression,” said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. “We will be patient with him because we want to evaluate him properly. We will have six months to determine if he can stay with the club next year.”

After leading the Senegal National League 2 (second division) with eight goals during the 2009-2010, Diouf was loaned out to first division Norwegian team Tromso. He rejoined Diambars last January.

Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos visited the Diambars Academy, which was created by four African players, including French international Patrick Vieira, in January on a detection trip in Africa. Diouf tried out with the Impact at the end of March.

With the addition of Diouf, the Impact now has the maximum seven foreign players on its roster for the 2011 season. The other six are French players Philippe Billy, Hassoun Camara, Idriss Ech Chergui, Kevin Hatchi, Anthony Le Gall and Richard Pelletier.

The Impact will play its next game against Thierry Henry, Rafa Marquez, Dwayne De Rosario, Greg Sutton and the New York Red Bulls at Saputo Stadium on May 11 at 7:30 pm. Excellent tickets are still available for the game, starting at $20, through Admission Network (admission.com / 514-790-1245) or at the Saputo Stadium ticketing office.
