The Impact signs forwards Peter Byers and Gason Gregory

“We are happy to add these two players on our roster,” said Impact technical director Nick De Santis. “We hope this will help us offensively. They come with very strong references and we hope that they will adapt themselves to our league. At this time of the year, it’s hard to sign forwards, but we think that they are the players that we were looking for who will award us good services.”

Byers, 23, played the 2007-2008 season with the San Juan Jabloteh, in Trinidad and Tobago first division. That year, he led the league in goals with 21 in 38 games. During the four previous seasons, he played with SAP FC, in Antigua and Barbuda first division championship, scoring a total of 73 goals in 79 games. He received the title of Most Valuable Player of the team three times. Byers also scored 18 goals in 27 games with the Antigua and Barbuda national team. This striker is renowned for his scoring ability as well as for his good pace and strength in holding off the ball.

Gregory, 26, also played with the San Juan Jabloteh, during the 2007-2008 season, scoring six goals in 22 games. During the previous four seasons, he also played in Antigua and Barbuda first division championship, scoring 26 goals in 45 games with Hoppers FC, from 2003 to 2005, then 29 goals in 46 matches with Freemansville FC, during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. Gregory also played with Antigua and Barbuda national U17, U23 and senior teams, playing 47 games in which he scored 27 goals. He is especially renowned for his speed and his technical abilities, and thrives in one-on-one challenges.

The two players trained with their new teammates Tuesday, at Saputo Stadium. The Impact will play its next game at home against the Atlanta Silverbacks, Wednesday (7:30 pm, CKAC Sports, THE Team 990, USLlive.com).
