Impact MVP Leonardo Di Lorenzo back with the team in 2008

The 26-year-old midfielder received the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy last season awarded to the Impact’s Most Valuable Player. He concluded the 2007 season with three goals, two game-winners, and four assists for 10 points, good for third rank among the team’s leaders in points. He was one of 13 players in the league who played the 28 regular season games, 25 as starter, for a total of 2,295 minutes, second on the team.

“We are pleased that Leonardo will be back next season,” said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. “He is one of the players around whom we are building our nucleus. He is a player who has shown great qualities during his first two years with us. He successfully adapted his game to the league’s style of play. Now, we are hoping that he will play an even bigger role offensively.”

Di Lorenzo also earned a spot in the 2007 USL D1 Second All-League Team for a second straight season and was named five times to the USL First Division Team of the Week.

In his inaugural season with the club in 2006, he had scored two goals and six assists in 1427 minutes of play.

The Impact will kick off its 15th season in the brand new Saputo Stadium next year. Montreal will play a 30-game schedule and will square off against each opponent three times. The top seven teams will advance to the playoff tournament, with the Commissioner’s Cup winner (regular season champion) receiving a bye into the semi-finals.
