Goalkeeper Matt Jordan back with the Impact

“We are very pleased to have concluded a deal with Matt, who was an important element of our team last season,” said Impact head coach Nick De Santis, who in 2008, will take on his fifth season at the helm of the team. “Matt has shown strong leadership qualities. His experience on the field and in the locker room, as well as his work ethic during games and training are positive for the whole team.”

Jordan, who turned 32 on October 13, was named the Impact Newcomer of the Year, after becoming the number one goalkeeper in 2007. In his first season, he tallied 10 wins and 11 shutouts, and his 0.649 goals against average was the second best in the league. Jordan also set two new team records, shutting out the opponent during six consecutive games, as well as not allowing a single goal during 622 minutes of play.

"I am very happy to be back next season,” said Jordan. “The fact that Nick will be coaching the team next season has had an impact on my personal decision. I believe in the vision that he and Joey Saputo have for the future of this club, and I am proud to be a part of it. As an organization, we are entering a very exciting time in the history of this club. Montreal has the potential to be one of the best soccer markets in North America. I know that my teammates and myself are looking forward to the challenges that the upcoming season will bring."

TRIP TO ARGENTINA
Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo and Impact head coach Nick De Santis will be off to Argentina, October 23.

Over the years, the club has developed strong ties with the South American country, notably with the signing of players Mauricio Vincello and midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo, who received the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy this year, awarded to the Montreal Impact’s most valuable player. During their stay, Impact management will be looking to finalize a pre-season tour in Argentina.
