Gabriel Gervais finalist for Defender of the Year award

The 31-year-old veteran, who played his eighth season in the USL D1 and his sixth with the Impact, helped Montreal post the second best defense in the league (21 goals allowed) and earned 14 regular-season shutouts. The Impact had an 11-2-4 record, in 17 games (1,505 minutes), when Gervais was on the starting line-up. On September 20, Gervais became the fifth player in league history to be named for the sixth time to the first team, but the first to achieve this feat in six consecutive seasons.

Along with Gervais, David Hayes, of the Atlanta Silverbacks, and Cameron Knowles, of the Portland Timbers, are up for the defensive honour.

The coaches and the general managers of the USL First Division selected the nominees. The name of the winner will be announced at the league banquet, scheduled September 28, in Seattle.

Note that the Impact will recognize some of its players’ performances during its Awards Banquet this Tuesday, at MAA Sports Club, at 6 pm.
