Forward Joey Gjertsen is named Player of the Week

Acquired July 26 with midfielder David Testo from the Vancouver Whitecaps, in return for midfielder Zé Roberto and forward Alen Marcina, Gjertsen tallied three assists in his first two games with the Impact.

On August 1, in a 4-1 win over the Carolina RailHawks, Gjertsen made two assists on Mauro Biello and Charles Gbeke’s goals, then on August 5, Gjertsen prepared Gbeke’s game-winning goal in a 1-0 shutout against the Rochester Rhinos.

“It’s a well deserved honour for him,” said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. “He was a key element in the last two wins. He played well and quickly felt at ease on the field with his new teammates. We are happy to see that the important trade we made has already paid off for the club.”

Defender Mauricio Vincello was also named to the USL D1 Team of the Week. It’s a second selection for the Argentinean player.

The Impact will play its next game this Friday against the Miami FC at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, at 7 pm (Télévision de Radio-Canada, Sirius, CJAD 800, USLlive.com).
