Portland 1 Impact 0

Andrew Gregor scored the lone goal for the Timbers in the 75th minute on a penalty kick, following a foul from defender Andres Arango in the 18-yard box. The Timbers midfielder beat goalkeeper Matt Jordan to his left, when he was diving to his right.

With this first loss, the Impact is now in third place in the USL D1 standings, following the 2-2 tie between the Rochester Raging Rhinos and the Carolina RailHawks. Montreal has three more games to play.

“Presently, the team is not capitalizing on all opportunities, but we must remain positive because we played a good game,” said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. “We dominated the game and we had numerous chances to score. From the bench, it's difficult to see if there was grounds for a penalty kick. We will have to analyze the situation more closely.”

“It’s an unfortunate way for the game to end for us, but I have to take a look at the call more closely before determining if the penalty was justified," said Impact goalkeeper Matt Jordan, who suffered his first loss in eight games. "I thought we played well and I think we can leave with our heads held high and we got to get ready for the next week’s game.”

The Impact, which was playing its third home game in a week, had to manage without five players: defenders Nevio Pizzolitto (knee) and Gabriel Gervais (national team), midfielders Mauro Biello (thigh) and Antonio Ribeiro (national team), as well as forward Fabian Dawkins (knee).

The Impact nonetheless dominated 15-4 in goal shots.

The Impact will play the final of a six-game stretch at home against the Charleston Battery, next Friday (7 pm, Télévision de Radio-Canada, CJAD 800, Sirius, USLlive.com).
