Braz, Leduc and Ribeiro with the National Team

Defender Adam Braz, as well as midfielders Patrick Leduc and Antonio Ribeiro were selected by head coach Frank Yallop.

“It’s always very positive for the club,” said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. “It’s great because once again they are calling up players from our team and from the league. Our players will have to prove they really have their place on the team, especially in Antonio’s case, for who it will be a first experience.”

Ribeiro, 25, played for the Under-20 Canadian national team in 1998, but will be training with the senior squad for the very first time.

Braz, 24, and Leduc, 28, were both called up by the Canadian national team for last year’s CONCACAF championship, the Gold Cup, which was played from July 6 to 24 in the United States. Both players also took part in a training camp in California, last January, in preparation for a friendly game against the United States. Braz played in that match-up, but also faced Spain, September 3, 2005, in another international friendly.

GERVAIS ON THE TEAM OF THE WEEK
In other news, defender Gabriel Gervais was picked on the United Soccer Leagues First Division Team of the Week. The 29-year-old veteran helped the Impact kick off the regular season with a 0-0 tie against the Miami FC. It was Gervais’ 100th career start in a Montreal uniform.

The Impact’s next match-up will be against the Puerto Rico Islanders, this Sunday at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium, in Bayamon. It will be the second of four straight games on the road. Head coach Nick De Santis’ squad will play the 13th home opener of its history at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex on Sunday, May 21, against the Minnesota Thunder.
