Young forward Massimo Di Ioia, one of the players trying to earn a spot on the team, scored the game-winning goal at the 80th minute of play. Defender David Fronidmadis sent a cross to forward Daniel Antoniuk, whose weak shot was redirected by Di Ioia to the left of the UQAM goalkeeper.

Impact goalkeepers Andrew Weber and Gerry Argento shared the shutout, the third in as many games since the beginning of training camp.

“We had some opportunities to score early in the game but we did not convert our chances and it got harder and harder for us after that,” said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. “We are not playing under the best of circumstances but we still have to play well, especially on offense. I was expecting a little bit more from my players today.”

The Impact will play its fourth and last pre-season game this Saturday at 10 am against the Lac St-Louis Lakers, at the Catalogna Soccerplexe in Lachine. In the previous game between the two teams, April 7, the Impact shut out the Lakers 6-0.

The Impact will play its first regular-season game on Sunday, April 23 in Miami. Montreal’s 13th home opener in club history at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex will take place Sunday, May 21, against the Minnesota Thunder.
