Impact ties Lynx 1-1 in front of 9,289 fans

The game was played in front of 9,289 spectators. It was the largest home attendance this season for the Impact, and the club’s second highest all-time. The club record of 9,414 fans was established on August 13, 2003.

Vincello jumped on a rebound outside the penalty area and powered a low shot, one-timing the ball, to the right of Bryheem Hancock. It was his second goal this season. Both goals have been scored against his former team.

Darren Baxter had given the Lynx a 1-0 lead at the 60th minute. He redirected a header by Charles Gbeke while standing at the goal mouth. Greg Sutton had no chance on the play, allowing only his third goal in 11 starts this season.

"It’s disappointing to tie at home and to lose two points in the standings," said Impact head coach Nick DeSantis. "We had good ball movement, we kept creating chances and attacking, but the game result should have been finalized in the first half."

The Impact’s domination of the game resulted in a 29-11 edge in terms of shots on net — 18-4 in the second half. Joel Bailey (six shots), Fred Commodore (four), Antonio Ribeiro (four) and Chris Williams (three) had the best chances for Montreal.

"Our strength until now has been to take advantage of our scoring chances when we get them, but that didn’t happen today," said Ribeiro, who saw his sideways volley stopped by Hancock at the 65th minute. "After tying it up, we tried to take the lead, but teams that come to Montreal are content to close things down, so it keeps getting harder to produce."

Sutton added two new club records to his collection. He now has a total of 7,589 career minutes played in a Montreal uniform, allowing him to erase Paolo Ceccarelli’s old record of 7,482 minutes. Sutton also played his 80th lifetime game with the Impact, tying Ceccarelli’s record.

The tie allowed DeSantis’ squad to extend its club record of 11 games without a loss, and to remain the A-League’s only undefeated team at 8-0-3.

The Impact is now one point behind the Rochester Rhinos (9-2-1) and first place in the Eastern Conference. Montreal has one game in hand.

The Impact remained undefeated in three games against the Lynx this year (2-0-1). It was the last regular-season match-up this season between the two teams.

Montreal will play its next game Sunday, June 27 in Syracuse, against the Salty Dogs (6 pm). It will be the first of three consecutive away games. It will also be the first of a stretch of 10 games in 32 days.
