Piatti finds familiar foe in Lodeiro

This Saturday at 7pm, when Seattle Sounders FC jumps onto the Olympic Stadium field (TICKETS – TVA Sports, 98,5FM & TSN Radio 690), the Impact will take on Uruguayan playmaker Nicolás Lodeiro for the very first time. But the Bleu-blanc-noir players can count on Nacho Piatti for some pointers.

Lodeiro, who was key in turning the Sounders into a championship team, crossed paths with Piatti during the 2014 Copa Libertadores. Nacho’s San Lorenzo had been drawn into Group 2, with Lodeiro’s Botafogo.

While San Lorenzo got off to a bad start with a 2-0 loss to Lodeiro and co. in Brazil, things turned out okay: the team then defeated Botafogo 3-0 at home – with two Nacho goals – and, in the end, a Cup final win.

“Lodeiro is a great player,” Piatti said on Friday. “He likes to play with the ball and provide assists. In training, we’ve worked on marking him tightly so that he does not make the difference. It’ll be very important for us to do that tomorrow.”
