MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Tuesday the acquisition of American full back Chris Duvall and general allocation money from Minnesota United FC in return for midfielder Johan Venegas, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
Duvall, 25, has played three seasons in MLS with the New York Red Bulls, recording one goal and four assists in 59 regular season games, including 52 starts, and 4,776 minutes played. He also started both Red Bulls games against the Impact in the 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs. He won the Supporters’ Shield with the Red Bulls in 2015, helping the team finish atop the general MLS standings.
“We are very pleased to add Chris to our team,” said Impact technical director Adam Braz. “He has proven to be a versatile and reliable defender in his three seasons with the Red Bulls. This is a full back profile that our coaching staff is looking for, and we are happy to acquire him. We want to thank Johan for his services and wish him the best of luck with his new team.”
Originally from Duluth, Georgia, Duvall was drafted 22nd overall by the Red Bulls in the second round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft after playing four seasons with the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons. He made his MLS debut on May 17, 2014, against Toronto FC.
He has also appeared in four CONCACAF Champions League games as well as two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup games.
He was selected earlier today by Minnesota in the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft.
