Can the Impact clinch a playoff spot this Sunday?

Groupe_SJ

This is it.

Now is the time when Impact Media brings to you the first scenario with which the Montreal Impact would clinch an MLS Cup Playoffs spot, at Camping World Stadium this Saturday at 1pm against Orlando City SC (TVA Sports, ESPN & TSN Radio 690).

The Impact needs, in chronological order:

  • A Columbus Crew SC tie or defeat at home to the Chicago Fire on Saturday at 7:30pm;
  • A New England Revolution tie or defeat at home to Sporting Kansas City on Saturday at 7:30pm;
  • An Impact win against Orlando on Sunday.

This is how everything works out: a win would increase the Impact’s points total to 44, and Orlando, still on 35 points, would be unable to catch up with only two games left to play (maximum points: 41). A Revolution tie would leave that team on 37 points with two games left (maximum points: 43). Columbus, with a draw, would reach 33 points with three games to go (maximum points: 42).

Here is a statistical view of teams still vying for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference:

And even if this scenario does not materialize, the race to the MLS Cup Playoffs carries on with two can’t-miss encounters on October 16, at home to Toronto FC (TICKETS), and on October 23 at New England Revolution!
