MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Saturday the acquisition of American offensive midfielder Harry Shipp, from the Chicago Fire, in return for general and targeted allocation money. The trade is pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.

Shipp, 24, has played two seasons in MLS with the Chicago Fire, recording 10 goals and 14 assists in 66 regular season games, including 55 starts and 4,917 minutes.

“We are very pleased to have been able to acquire Harry and we are looking forward to him joining our group,” said Impact technical director Adam Braz. “He is a player who has already shown he can produce in this league and we feel that he will fit well into our team and into our style of play.”

He quickly established himself offensively in MLS, finishing second for the MLS Rookie of the Year honour in 2014, after leading his team with six assists, while finishing second with seven goals.

In 2015, Shipp led the Fire with eight assists in 33 games, and finished tied for first with 29 games played and second with 2,571 minutes of play. He scored three goals, including two game-winning goals. He also started four Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup games.

Originally from Lake Forest, Illinois, he signed as a Homegrown player on January 9, 2014, after three seasons with the Fire Premier in the PDL. He went through the Chicago Fire Academy, playing at the U16 and U18 levels.

He also played four years with the Notre-Dame Fighting Irish between 2010 and 2013, captaining his team to its first NCAA College Cup in 2013, after recording 23 goals and 24 assists in 84 career games. A finalist for the Mac-Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top male college player, he was named the 2013 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-ACC First Team honors.
