Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier met Impact Media on Monday morning to discuss the team's approach ahead of an important game against the Earthquakes (September 17, 10pm ET, TVA Sports/Sportsnet).

Impact Media: Is the approach for this CONCACAF Champions League game different?

The approach is the same. We want to win each game we play. The difference is that the Champions League is a tournament format, so there is a knockout element to it. We need a good result Tuesday night to put us in a good position for the final game against Heredia next week.

IM: How do you prepare for this stretch of five games in 15 days?

The key is to rest. We need to be rested and fresh. We all have the responsibility of making sure the legs are ready to go for the upcoming stretch and the key will be rest and regeneration.

IM: Is it easier to play a team that you are familiar with through MLS than a game like Heredia?

Not really. Yes we know the roster a little more and we’ve seen them play in the league a lot more, but we don’t really know what their approach to the game will be. They are in a little different position than us in the standings. San Jose may come full force Tuesday night, putting their focus on the Champions League as the season has been tougher for them.
