MLS helps students at Newtown

Troy Perkins vs Houston Dynamo

All of North America was rocked in December when news of another shooting in the U.S. left 27 people dead, including 20 students, at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.

When tragedy strikes, communities tend to come together in order to cope, and today, Major League Soccer joins this community to help bring smiles to the faces of Newtown children, provide a brief diversion from the awful realities facing their community, and create positive lifelong memories.

A number of MLS players, including the Impact’s Troy Perkins, will take part in special soccer event that includes a variety of interactive soccer-based games and activities for kids and families, including the opportunity to meet and get autographs from Major League Soccer players and U.S. National Team legends.

The event will take place at the Newtown Youth Academy from 4-8pm and is free of charge, open only to Newtown residents and members of the Newtown Youth Soccer Club. Through MLS W.O.R.K.S. local families and children will be able to spend an afternoon thinking about the beautiful game rather than the ugliness of recent events.
