On June 5, local boy and Impact Academy product Karl W. Ouimette became the first ever home grown player to sign a pro deal in MLS with the Impact. The young defender went on to play his very-first MLS game on July 21 against the Houston Dynamo at the BBVA Compass Stadium.


The 20-year-old central defender joined the Impact in 2009 and served as U21 team captain from the start of the 2011 season. He played in two games with the Impact in MLS in 2012, as well as appearances against Olympique Lyonnais, Bologna and Fiorentina.


He continued to play with the U21 side throughout the year, helping the team finish second in the regular season standings in the Canadian Soccer League, losing the championship match by a 1-0 score to Toronto Croatia.
