WATCH: Interview with defender Karl W. Ouimettte on TVA Sports

Karl W. Ouimette

Becoming an official member of a professional soccer team changes things for a young, 20-year-old.

However, Karl W. Ouimette, who signed his first ever pro contract with the Montreal Impact four months ago, hasn’t had a regular day-to-day life for a few years now. Ten years ago, his younger sister of eight was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. At the time of the diagnosis, she had a 5% chance of survival.

“It was a huge shock for the family,” he said in an interview with TVA Sports, last Friday. “She had a bone marrow transplant  and an umbilical blood transfusion and it worked for some time. Then, she had a relapse.”

“It’s over 10 years that we have been dealing with this and she recently had a third transplant, this time with a compatible donor. She is doing much better and now with what’s happening with me and the Impact, it’s magical for us.”

Karl W. Ouimette will be the guest of honour at the Marche Rêve d’enfants at l’ile-des-Moulins in Terrebonne, from 10am to 1pm. The 2km walk will commence at 11am and will be followed by animation and snacks.
