Marsch: We are close to getting over the hump

When Impact head coach Jesse Marsch studies game tape, he sees a team that is learning valuable lessons, which will be key to the success of his team over the entire season.

Now, the former U.S. National Team coach is looking to put these lessons into action.

“We are at the point where we need to turn good performances into results,” said Marsch. “It’s time to get over the hump.”

And part of getting these results is finding ways to close out games.

“We are all learning as a team,” he told the press. “We have to be able to handle leads and play on the road. We know that we’ve let some teams off the hook. We have to turn that around and get points.”

Staying focused

“Concentration on set pieces and on throw-ins has caused us trouble at different times,” explained Marsch. “The understanding of what it takes to win games is there, we are close. We just need to clean up a few things, learn to manage the game better when we have a lead.”

And Marsch feels the team is close, really close, to getting over the hump.

“It would be different if we were outclassed or we didn’t play well enough,” explained the head coach. “But we are there in every game and the team knows it, they feel it. Now it’s time to push ourselves to make sure things go our way. We’ll get there.”

The team will get its next chance on Wednesday, at 7:30pm ET, against D.C. United, at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
